Planning For The Future

Look at the future

It is impossible to know the future.  So why do we plan for it?

I think that God laughs at our plans for the future, since He can see beginning from end.  So how do we plan for the future when we don?t know it, and try to be in God?s will?

I think that there?s a way where we can have the comfort of a plan while allowing for God to work consistent with the way He?s been at work in our lives. It just takes some more work, and emphasis on what?s really important.

Come with me as we explore planning with God in mind.

Introduction

I have come across a wonderful devotion that will strengthen your marriage. It is written by one of my favorite ladies, Nancy Campbell of Above Rubies. It is rather lengthy so I am going to split it up a bit. The title is Seven Secrets For Wives. Today I will give you the introduction and I will periodically post one of the seven secrets. I think you will be blessed. Please stop by and learn about each of these seven secrets, take them to heart, look to the Word of God, and be prayerful concerning them, and may your marriages be strengthened, blessed, and honoring to the Lord.

On the 2nd March 2000 Colin and I celebrated our 37th wedding anniversary. Where has the time gone? Colin was 60 years old on the 1st April 2000 (yes, April Fool?s Day!) and I follow next year. In the early years of our marriage I remember attending a silver wedding anniversary of a couple in our church, and I thought they were old! When I planned a Ruby Wedding anniversary (40th) for my parents years ago, I thought they were getting very old! Now it won?t be long before we celebrate our ruby anniversary. But age is more a matter of the mind than years, isn?t it? I feel younger than I ever have in my life. However, I do trust that I have become a little wiser and more mature as the years have gone on.

Colin and I have been blessed with a faithful and committed marriage. I can remember thinking before I married, “What on earth it would be like to live with a person for all your life?” Wow, these years have seemed like one day ? and now we?re ready for another 37 years! The following are some of the secrets I have learned over the years. They are all biblical concepts. I am sure you must be getting used to the fact that I always resort to the Word of God for the foundation of my life, so back to the Word we go. Here are seven “S?s” for you.

~Nancy Campbell~

Make sure you check back often?for the entire series and please leave your comments. Hopefully we can encourage one another to make our marriages stronger.

Homeschooler? Time for a Parent/Teacher Conference!

learning with pencil

I?m new to the whole homeschooling scene, seeing as this week marks the forth week since we have begun.  One of the challenges that we?ve had was reconciling the number of days that our home state requires and the fact that curriculum we purchased had fewer days worth of lessons.

As we began looking around the web for answers, we found that a lot of what they do in the public school can be done in a homeschool and it counts!

The Devaluing of Women

slub

Monogamy lasts in the Bible all of four chapters.? From the creation of Adam and Eve until this statement about Lamech in Genesis 4:19:

And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one [was] Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.

We are lead to believe that there were only marriages between one man and one woman.

What was the compelling reason to have two wives?? Insurance against sin:

In The Market for a Mattress

It?s funny.  If you sit down and do the math, we?re supposed to get 7 hours of sleep a night.  That?s 49 hours of sleep a week, roughly 210 hours of sleep a month, and 2,555 hours of sleep a year.

We spend 29% of our time sleeping?and most of that on a mattress, but when we go to buy a mattress we try to save as much money as we can.

We?re laying on that mattress longer than we?re in our car (for most people) and yet we skimp here.  We?re probably not playing our Wii as long as we?re sleeping, and yet we?ll go all out? well, I think you?ve got the hint.

Keeping Your Family Safe

What do you use to keep your family and your house safe?

A few years back, my family and I went out to visit my inlaws and when we had returned we left the doors to our car unlocked.  The next time we got into the car we found that someone had gotten inside, stole the in-dash CD player as well as a whole wallet of CDs.

I don?t consider my house to be in that much of an unsafe neighborhood, but I?d be lying if I didn?t think that, when we were leaving for this last trip, that I should do something to keep my computer safe in case someone came in.  I mean, I have irreplaceable photos on it!

A Cracking Foundation

brick wall 1 No, not in our relationship, in our cellar walls!

For some time now we?ve known that our basement as a mold/mildew problem.  We?ve actually had a couple different people come in to take a look at it.  The first one was a guy that wanted to drill holes in the bottom concrete blocks of my house?s foundation and then run a new drainage system around the outside.

And that was only protecting me against the basement floor from getting wet, which is wasn?t.
