How many of you have fireplaces?

Ok, put your hands down.

One of the things that my wife and I were looking for in a new house was a fireplace.  It’s not just the benefit of having something different generate heat for the winter—it’s the romance that a fireplace brings.

Whether it’s Gas Fires, Electric Fires, or plain old Wood Fires, there’s nothing that beats the crackling sound, the warm colors and the warmth.

There’s something about a woman in white.  I can’t quite place my finger on what it is. 

Part of it is the clean look—the pure white dress looks clean, bright and brilliant.

Part of it is the symbolism—the purity that white symbolizes.  Knowing that the one to who you are going to pledge your life to has waited for you.

Part of it is the way that white Wedding Dresses accentuate the woman’s form and figure.  And the way that a formal dress fits a woman—and knowing that she’s your woman—well, it’s enough to bring joy to any man’s heart.

It’s true what they say.  When the bride is coming down the aisle, turn around and look at the husband-to-be.  The look on his face, the look at his bride, is amazing.

Last Monday marked the seventh year my wife and I have been married, and on that day one of my coworkers and I had an interesting conversation.  He said that he believed that seven was a big year inasmuch as it would indicate how well a marriage could survive.

Then he said that it was only seven years that he and the mother of his children were able to stay together.

The statistics for divorce are incredible—and very sad.  What’s more, it says something about the way that we approach commitments and, in turn, the way that our children will approach commitments.

David Plotz and Hanna Rosin decided to put their love and marriage of 11 years to the test by trying not to be more than 15 feet apart an entire day.  They were inspired by a couple of buddhists that were doing the same thing for 10 years, and they wondered what a day would be like. 

What they found was interesting.  Though neither of them wanted to do it the following day, they learned a lot about who the other person was and a lot about what spending time together truly meant.

Gossip has a way of tearing people to shreds– and when it’s gossip inside the family, or even disparaging remarks in jest, it can wound someone on the inside and twist the knife deep into a person.

And this “harmless” disparagement of husbands among wives is not harmless either, ladies. It may seem like it’s just fun and games to put down your husband when you’re gossiping with your girlfriends, but it isn’t. Would you say that kind of stuff to his face? Would you tell your husband that he can’t take care of himself if his life depended on it, that he’s selfish and doesn’t pay enough attention to his family? If you wouldn’t, then don’t go around laughing about it with your girlfriends without a second thought. Men seem stoic and unbreakable, but they aren’t. If your husband heard you telling your girlfriends how selfish he is, how he never helps out around the house, how he’s such a mess, how he can’t take care of himself… even if you meant it in jest, I can guarantee you that it would kill him inside.
