CookiesIn a fast moving society like today, it can be easy to go through the motions of life without thinking much. Wake up. Get the kids off to school. Pick the kids up. Go to soccer practice. Eat a quick dinner. Head off to a church activity. Go home and get to bed, so you can do it all over the next day.

As parents we need to make sure we stop frequently to really connect with our kids. It’s not enough to make sure they’re in the right schools, on the right athletic teams, and going to the right church activities. Kids crave interaction and attention from their parents, even if they don’t act like it.

Ladies, Your Husband is Not the Enemy

Twelve years ago, when I was a newlywed, I took a Bible study at my church called Loving Your Husband. The Bible study was great, but even better was what I learned from the woman who led the study.

Her name was Carolyn, and she was in her 50s, I believe. She had the sweetest disposition, and she wasn’t afraid to share mistakes she had made over the course of her marriage. She would always begin important points by addressing us as “ladies”.

One evening, Carolyn was talking about arguments between husbands and wives. “Ladies,” she said, “Your husband is not the enemy. Always remember that.”

That one sentence has stuck with me through 12 years of marriage. Satan would love to see Christian families torn apart. He is the enemy, not my husband.

When you’re in the midst of a disagreement, it’s easy to see the other person as the enemy. It’s not true. Always remember that you are both working toward the good of your family, even if you have different ideas. Ladies, seek to understand your husband’s point of view, even if you don’t agree with it. Never forget that your husband is a child of God; a gift to be loved and respected. Always show respect toward your husband, even if you can’t see eye to eye with him.

Ladies, your husband is not the enemy.

Hello From Oregon!

I’m Lynnae, and I was pleasantly surprised when MInTheGap contacted me recently about contributing to Weekend Kindness. I’ll tell you a little bit about myself, so you know who is behind my posts.

I’ve been married for 12 years to my wonderful husband, and we have two children: a 9 year old girl, and an almost 5 year old boy. I grew up in a Christian home, but like many teenagers, I rebelled in a big way in college. Fortunately, I rededicated my life to Christ as a young adult, and I’ve been following Him ever since.

I’m a stay-at-home mom, which keeps me busy. I enjoy watching my children play soccer, helping them learn their AWANA verses, and just being home when they come home from school, so I can hear about their days. I’m also in the process of helping my husband start his own copywriting business. It’s a new adventure, and I can’t wait to see what God has in store for us!

In my (limited) spare time, I enjoy reading, writing, and occasionally singing with my husband on our church’s worship team.

I’m excited about contributing to Weekend Kindness! I believe that Christians can have a profound impact on the world through our relationships with others, and I can’t wait to see what God chooses to do through this blog!
