I?m new to the whole homeschooling scene, seeing as this week marks the forth week since we have begun.  One of the challenges that we?ve had was reconciling the number of days that our home state requires and the fact that curriculum we purchased had fewer days worth of lessons.

As we began looking around the web for answers, we found that a lot of what they do in the public school can be done in a homeschool and it counts!

  • Field Trips?  Check!
  • Educational Movies?  Check!
  • Nature-walks?  Check!

Which causes me to wonder?  What about parent/teacher conferences?  I mean, I?m a parent, and my wife is a teacher.  Can we take a day off and go do some? planning?

I mean, by necessity we?d have to leave our house, since that?s the school?it?d be like having an offsite conference.  And there couldn?t be any kids there.

It could be time for instruction in different subjects, planning, and perhaps some ?get-to-know-you-better? type games? I?m really beginning to like this idea!

So, homeschoolers, help a guy out!  Do parent/teacher conferences count as days of school, and have you ever done one?
