Thank you for visiting Weekend Kindness-- the blog that helps you build positive relationships! If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed so that you don't miss a single post from one of our great authors!

Tissue Box So, here I am, late at night, oldest child on the couch with a head cold.  Some would blame it on the change in weather.  Others could blame it on not getting enough vitamins.  I blame it on my coworker.

That’s right.  About three weeks ago, my friend and coworker decided that he was going to be a tough guy and instead of staying home and getting over his cold there, he decided to come to work and share it with all of us.  His cold went on for what seemed like two weeks, and he came in every day, coughing with his voice almost gone.

Now, I have a healthy immune system, but even I felt a little of the effects.  And my middle son all of a sudden had a cough that sounded just like my coworker’s cough.

Now I have at least two of the three (if not all three) coughing, and I’m sitting here writing blog posts when I could be sleeping.

So please, if you’re sick, show kindness by:

  • Staying Home
  • Getting Needed Rest
  • Taking Care of Yourself
  • Not Sharing Your Cold

Your coworkers, their families, and your company will thank you.

Sorry you guys are fighting colds! And I feel your angst, but kind of have a different take on it. I’ve been around people who get downright panicked when someone with potential germs comes near…that really bothers me. I’d rather get sick myself than treat someone like a leper. Besides, my theory is that we could pick up any number of nasty germs from the shopping carts at Walmart just as easily and be ignorant as to where we contracted our contagions in the first place.

My husband is in a job in which he can’t stay home when sick…or very seldom, because they are so short-staffed that they need all the help they can get. The nice thing for his co-worker is that they work outdoors, so the germs can hopefully drift away on the wind! And if my hubby had pneumonia, he might stay home, who knows…he’s pretty tough. It’s a catch 22 in our case. And we don’t get sick days or sick pay.

I definitely think if you can keep from exposing others (and in a job like yours, the co-worker definitely had other options and sick days coming to him most likely) you should! It bothers me, for instance, when people drop off their snotty-nosed, coughing toddlers in the nursery on Sundays…but most people are pretty considerate in that regard.

Hope you all get well soon!
