For our 5 year anniversary my hubby gave me one of those past, present, and future rings. I was completely caught of guard because I knew, a) how poor we are and b) when he showed me where he'd left the ring box (we'd gone for a night in a B&B in a plantation home here in LA), I thought the staff had left it for us! Poor guy. :) While the ring is certainly beautiful (he did a great job getting a deal!), it was the element of surprise that was the best part for me, probably because he had told me there was no way he'd be able to afford any jewelry as long as he is in school. I still have yet to get my engagement ring and band fused together because I can't bear to have them off my finger for a long period of time.
