Back before I even dated my wife, I knew the power of fine jewelry. My brother and I, knowing that it was my mom’s birthday, decided we were going to get her something—and we had to do it fast because we were downtown and were going to be leaving soon.
So, we went into the local store, and started looking around to see if we could find something that we thought that my mom would want.
Then we spotted what we thought was the perfect thing.
Right near the cash register were little, thin, plastic rings that had different “stones” for birth months. I forget how much they were, but I figure they were about four for a dollar, because that’s what I remember paying total. We thought that they were both great deals and something special—because we rarely got money to spend anyway.
Well, needless to say, I don’t believe that my mom still has them, but the moral of the story is that the thought behind a gift is more important than whether it’s a Three Stone Ring, a Diamond Pendant or even Stud Earrings.
The last thing is something that I got my wife for her birthday/Christmas not too long ago. It’s neat to give your wife jewelry to watch her eyes sparkle. For some reason, that nearly transparent rock has a lasting effect—one that not only helps her feel more beautiful, but it also makes you smile.

That’s pretty sweet! My mother has nice collection of jewelry that she has received over the years from all of her children. She has the mother’s ring and the grandmother’s ring. She loves it!

@Pamela Kramer: I think the my mom got rid of the plastic stuff, but I still remember it. It would have been awkward to wear three solitaire plastic rings on your finger I think.

How have I missed all of these posts?
For our 5 year anniversary my hubby gave me one of those past, present, and future rings. I was completely caught of guard because I knew, a) how poor we are and b) when he showed me where he’d left the ring box (we’d gone for a night in a B&B in a plantation home here in LA), I thought the staff had left it for us! Poor guy.
While the ring is certainly beautiful (he did a great job getting a deal!), it was the element of surprise that was the best part for me, probably because he had told me there was no way he’d be able to afford any jewelry as long as he is in school.
I still have yet to get my engagement ring and band fused together because I can’t bear to have them off my finger for a long period of time. And we’re going on 6 years now!

@Rachel: I don’t know how you missed these posts, most people miss this site altogether!
You’re supposed to get your rings fused together? My wife’s is not, and no one even suggested that she should!
