Starting At the Beginning

When 2 becomes 1

Believe it or not, there was a time when a couple did not have to worry about their relationship.  A time when there were no quarrels.  A time when spouses loved each other as they ought.

But, unfortunately, it didn?t last very long.

In the beginning, God created man and then created woman when He saw that man was alone.  He created her to be a help meet for him.

And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

The Myth of the “Real Man”

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

There have been a lot of calls in recent years for the return of the ?real man.?  We say that he went missing, replaced by the ?meterosexual? or the feminized man.

And now, everyone?s out there trying to define what a real man is.  They define it by hobbies?does he like to fish or hunt?  Some define it as grooming habits.  Others define it by what it?s not: getting facials, botox, etc.

You Are Your Daughter’s First Love

Me and My GirlDad, you are the first man in your daughter’s life.  You are the role model, the one that she will look up to.  You are the example– of what a dad should be and what God is like.

What an awesome and scary thought!

The first chapter in Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters is You Are the Most Important Man in Her life.  What’s amazing is that Dr. Meeker attests from experience how girls are impacted by their fathers:

Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Regardless of her age, your daughter will be looking to a man in her life.  For most of her young life, that’s you, dad.

You have the biggest impact.  You make the biggest difference.  You are the one that she looks to as a model for the man that she will one day marry.  You have more power to help shape her life than you ever knew.

As a father to a little girl, these are sobering words.  We’ve all seen the situation comedies that portray the girl as the rebel and the father as the bumbling dolt.

It Doesn’t Have to Be Big

Bride by the Sunrise

This whole series has been about big things?things that you would do when money is no object, and you have much at your disposal.  The reason for this is that we, as guys, rarely shoot for the big things, and many times because we do not plan the big things we sometimes let even the small things fall by the wayside.

It?s important that our wives know that we love them?and we can show this using one of the 101 Ways to Say I Love You Without Saying It.  We can use one of the 31 Ways to Say ?I Miss You? when we?re apart.  We can even be a geek and use the 101 Ways to Show Your Love to a Geek.  The point is that we must be doing something.

The Hardest Part About Moving

box 3 Americans collect junk.  No, seriously.  If you look at any other civilization across the world, we?re the number one owners of junk?I believe?that can be found.

And I?m probably one of the worst culprits.

You see, I am one of those guys that likes to keep old school materials because I believe that someday my kids will get some use out of the math problems I did in school.

Stop that laughing?I?m serious! (or at least partly so.)

This generation of adults have more access to other people?s money than at any time in our nation?s history, and they believe that they need a house full of stuff just like their parent?s house, and they need it now.

Plan a Scavenger Hunt

bridebythesunrise4

In college, we had a yearly event called a dating outing.  It was a time when my society got a chance to put on an event?either formal, at a park, etc?where the guys could invite girls to do something a little out of the ordinary.

One year we were at Paris Mountain and I was in charge of making a scavenger hunt for three different groups.  The idea was that they would go from place to place looking for clues that would get them to an end goal.  The cute part was that the three guys that were planning it sent their dates a clue that had to be read at one point in time.
