7 More Unusual Date Ideas

be with me 3Tired of the same old date ideas: Going out to the mall, dusting off the bowling shoes, or going out to dinner followed by some lame movie that you really didn’t want to see?

We here at Weekend Kindness want to help!  So, we’ve scoured books on dating and would like to present for your approval the following list of 7 more Unusual Date Ideas taken from "Date Your Mate":

1. Let’s Make a Deal

On a piece of cardboard create a three-door game that will let your lover select the place and price level of subsequent outings.  Label the doors 1, 2, and 3.  Behind each door write the description of a particular date ( for instance, "A dinner at [a favorite restaurant] followed by a night at the theater seeing a live play" ).  Behind another door may be a less extravagant date such as "A fun-filled evening shopping for a new pair of shoes (on me, of course)".  The last alternative might be something like "You’ve won an exciting evening at home with two videos of your choice and a bowlful of popcorn."

That’s What Friends Do

summer-girls2.jpgIt was late when the phone rang. I was already in bed, but I knew it was my best friend, J.

Claudia, this is J. I’m getting married!

J, I am so excited for you! How did he ask?

The conversation was short. It was late and we would talk tomorrow when I went to meet with J for our weekly Bible study.

A not so highly anticipated first

baby.JPGThe first cry. The first smile. The first laugh. Those first wobbly steps.

Almost every parent celebrates these milestones, and they earn their marks in baby books and in family Christmas cards as we relate the significant events of the year. We celebrate because our baby is growing, showing more of a personality each day. She is more of an individual and her desire for our mere presence and approval are still noticeable. We look at these milestones and know they are growing faster than we really want, but we are not really confronted by just how fast. Maybe that is why we focus so much on these milestones.

It Never Grows Old

Psalm 127
Unless the LORD builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the LORD guards the city, The watchman keeps awake in vain. It is vain for you to rise up early, To retire late, To eat the bread of painful labors; For He gives to His beloved {even in his} sleep. Behold, children are a gift of the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth. How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them; They will not be ashamed When they speak with their enemies in the gate.

101 Ways to Show Your Love to Your Geek

There’s a special breed of man out there, a man that is unlike any other.  He won’t be swayed by watching hours of sports, or wooed with the latest hot rod. He likes to spend most of his time away from the beach, under the glow of an artificial sun.

You love him, but you can’t understand why he’s drawn to the clicking of keys, the fluid motion of the mouse or the whirr of the DVD-ROM drive. And so, I’ve prepared a list of 101 ways that you can show love to the geek in your life:

Have You Rebounded?

Sometimes we learn the most when times are bad, not when they’re good.  Each of us is impacted in different ways by different events.

  • When I was a kid, I didn’t like the way some of the older children in church treated me, so when I grew up I made sure to treat them well.
  • When I chose to go to summer camp instead of my family trip and I look back on that decision, I remember that family is more important than a girlfriend.

That latter touches on the subject at hand– the impact of love on our lives. You see love impacts how we think, what we choose and how we act. It impacts how merciful we are, and what we overlook. It can make us value certain things more than others.
