It's only when we get out of looking at our marriage as something for us and begin thinking of it as something for them that we will begin to live the married life that's possible. I'm sure that if we asked those couples that have long marriages what their secret is, this would be the key. More than talking a walk when angry, if we'd practice preferring one another we would see a lot of marriages last much longer than we do today. Selfishness is probably the biggest problem in a marriage, hence all the Scripture that talks about submission and love. It’s only when we get out of looking at our marriage as something for us and begin thinking of it as something for them that we will begin to live the married life that’s possible.

I’m sure that if we asked those couples that have long marriages what their secret is, this would be the key. More than talking a walk when angry, if we’d practice preferring one another we would see a lot of marriages last much longer than we do today.
