Glad I encouraged you to get out and date, Lynnae!

Jess, what a terrific post, and what a great thing to do on a date– just as long as you get to do some more lighthearted stuff as well! :)

We had a nice walk to the restaurant (don’t have a car here, and it was a nice night) and had an amazingly good dinner. Aside from the “chains” in Hong Kong (Outback, Tony Roma’s), it was the best dinner we’ve ever eaten overseas.

Shaved salmon appetizer, and we each had steaks, and then we did our annual “State of the Union” assessment. Each year, on our anniversary date, we do a “checkup” on our marriage. We talk through various areas of our marriage:
how are we doing in communication?
intimacy?
parenting?
are we still working as a team?
is there anything I can do to serve you better in any of these areas?
is there anything you need that you’re not getting from me?

And we also do the “year in review” thing… talking about the high and low points of the last year. And just generally processing how things are going in our marriage. I love anniversary dates; it’s always extra-special to talk through all these things together.

We did go to a Casting Crowns concert a couple of weeks ago, but that was with another couple. I think our last date might have actually been on our anniversary back in June. Time to schedule a date!
